CNY dinner with family
Morning all!
The long holiday is drawing to an end. One more day and it’s back to work … Thursday’s gonna be a nightmare waking up early! Yesterday we had steamboat at my sister’s place.
I will let the pictures do the talking …

Steamboat. Some other steamboat ingredients included:

Abalone, clams, beef …

Salmon, prawns …

Fish balls, mushrooms and not pictured was veggies such as broccoli, cauliflower etc. etc.

With our significant others.

After dinner we had Yusheng … We don’t have this in Mauritius but it’s a tradition over here. I think it’s fun to toss and mix all the ingredients together. “Yusheng implies “abundance of wealth and long life“. It is a salad dish made of thin slices of raw fish and various spices, mixed with tossing actions by diners.”

“Arranged on a large serving plate, the colourful array of ingredients include raw fish (we used smoked salmon), shredded green and white radish, shredded carrots, pickled ginger, crushed nuts. The ingredients are topped with various condiments including deep-fried flour crisps, crushed peanuts, sesame seeds, cinnamon, pepper and other spices.”

“All at the table would then jointly toss the salad with a generous portion of plum sauce and cooking oil to add sweetness and taste.”

The ingredients and tossing actions is linked to prosperity and longevity, all adding to the good wishes for the new year.

Eating some Chinese New Year snacks while watching TV.

It’s still 10.30am over here. I woke up not feeling hungry at all! I only ate an apple. I might be cooking something later with prawns and aubergine …
