Wife Biscuits

*Screams*

Why didn’t I buy my airplane tickets to Bali when they were still S$50 just a few days ago!? Yes, S$50 for a return ticket including taxes and other additional charges!!! Dannnnnnng :(

Ok I just wanted to get this off my chest. But seriously, I do regret not getting the tickets soon after the girlfriends had told me about that great deal. That was just last week and in just a few days, a lot of people purchased their tickets and of course the price automatically went up.  I should have just bought them first, then decide whether to go to Bali or not.

Anyway …

Today is the M day but I am feeling great and this is because:

  1. I had a light dinner last night
  2. I definitely feel lethargic the next day if I eat too much for dinner, don’t you?

  3. I slept early last night
  4. Well actually this is not so true but I did sleep before midnight, so that’s still not too bad eh.

  5. I went for a run this morning
  6. I almost gave in to sleep. Here’s what happened: At 6 am the husband’s phone alarm went off –  why do I always hear his alarm but never mine!!? –  and I immediately told him to change the time to 7.15 am as I wasn’t waking up. Then, before he even had the chance to change the time, I got out of bed. I told myself that I wouldn’t feel lethargic at work if I go for my run. I did a 10 km run and the legs felt great. I’m glad I didn’t give in to sleep :)

The husband bought me some recipe books (South East Asian cooking) and a couple of other things from Malacca, like a box of  “Wife Biscuits” a.k.a Loh Po Peng in chinese. I was smiling as he passed me the box. He said that all wives like “Wife Biscuits”. Hahaha.

“Wife Biscuits” is a chinese pastry with sweet winter melon paste as filling and a flaky pastry. I’ve eaten them a couple of times before and I only eat the outer layer i.e the flaky pastry (it gets very messy the way I eat mine). I find that the filling is way way too sweet and sticky! By the way, there’s also “Husband Biscuit” which has different fillings. I like all these names — “Wife Biscuits”, “Husband Biscuits” … sounds cute don’t they :)

Here’s the Wife Biscuit (photo above).

He also bought some Pineapple Tarts. Niceeeee but very buttery.

And a Ramly Burger too!

The way I eat my burger (at home) is weird. First, I remove the mayonnaise (I dislike these), then I eat the buns followed by the  eggs and finally it’s the meat!

I’ve eaten those before when I was in Shanghai. :)
I didn’t go to Malacca after all. :( I forgot that my passport wouldn’t be with me. I’m currently doing my China visa. Planning to go to HK and certain parts of China in about a week.

My wife and I like to have a fried egg on our burgers, but sadly, I have yet to see a place where burgers are sold with fried eggs. Our only option is to prepare the burgers at home. Surprisingly, I don’t like to put burgers on the grill, they are too messy. I prefer steak :-)

S$50 to Bali? That’s a good deal! What is the usual fare?

Haha I like those names : wife biscuits and husband biscuits! I remember I had pineapple tarts once. I don’t know if they’re the same as yours but they look very much alike. My aunt brought those tarts from HK. I don’t remember the taste though o_O

You have a funny way to eat your burgers for sure :P

Even the breakfast burgers at MacDonald are without egg?

    @ Angele

Yeah that’s a very good deal. Now it’s $200 + and others $300 + … depends on the travel period. I think you can still get within $200. Last time tickets were more expensive.

Going for 10 days. I’m still waiting for my visa. I’ll get it by the end of this week.
I’ll be back on the 10th in the early morning. My plane will reach SG on the 9th at about midnight. Argh.. Don’t want to take the cab . I heard that it’s like 50% more expensive after midnight but I have no choice. :( I don’t think there’s a bus I can take after midnight from the airport to my place.

I’m pretty sure MacDonald’s menu is influenced by the location. They don’t sell burgers for breakfast here, but English muffin (http://mcdonaldssocal.com/images/get/104/left_image_104.jpg)

Are you going alone? If you are going with friends, you can share the cab fare. Yeah there are late night charges after midnight + airport charges (if you take cabs from the airport). And you stay in the West! Gonna be expensive.

There’s a bus 858 from Changi Airport to Woodlands (quite fast, only 20 mins journey) and the last bus is at 0030. But then, Woodlands isn’t near your place.

You could also take a Night Rider Bus but it’s not directly from the airport.

How about camping at the airport haha :D

I forgot .. over here too, they don’t sell burgers during breakfast. Only muffins which comes with eggs (but the omelette type) … And their normal burgers also doesn’t come with fried eggs.

Too bad. We like our burgers like they are sold in some places in Mauritius: the patty, fried egg, and fries :-)

    Hey Carine~
Air asia have a new promo going on. Book between 24th June- 28th June, travel between 1 OCt 2009- 30 April 2010. I was checking how much it would cost me to travel to Bangkok for a week at the end of Jan 2010. Only around 60 dollars right now. For Bali, the tickets seem to be cheapest if you book for any dates between 9th Jan 2010 and 13th February. 20 SGD + 20 SGD. Add airport tax… the total for the round trip should be less than SGD 70. Air asia often have promos. :)

thanks for telling me about bus 858. I’ll see if I can catch that bus when I come back to Singapore. It will be cheaper if i take that bus to woodlands and then take a cab from woodlands to bukit batok. :D

I just realized that I’ll be paying a lot for cab fare on Monday when I go to Changi airport for my HK flight. My flight is at about 6 a.m and check-in starts at 4 a.m . I live too far from the airport. >.<

Oh yeah, new promo! But I am the type of person who hardly get tickets in advance because my travel plans always change! So are you getting your Bangkok tickets now?

  19. admin Says:

    @ Aline

Alone, you can come to my place if you managed to catch that bus 858 from the airport and then wait till morning (after peak hrs) to take cab back to BBatok?

You can also come to my place first on Monday evening and then take the bus 858 to the airport? The bus 858 is about 10-15 mins walk from my place. But you will arrive the airport early & will have to wait at the airport before checking time …

  20. aline Says:

Carine, it is 1:15 a.m and I’m still packing. :P I’m going to take the cab today in about 2 1/2 hrs.
Thanks for the offer! it’s very kind of you. I still haven’t decided how i will go home when I come back to Singapore. Too busy packing and other stuffs. Shouldn’t have gone out to watch Transformers at Vivo earlier. :P
