My Sunday and some groceries

Hey guys I hope you are having a great Sunday! Last night I told the husband to switch off all phones and alarms as I wanted to sleep in and faire la grasse matinée today i.e Sunday. But guess who was our wake-up call instead …

Yeah, none other than our cat, Mikey!

If you haven’t seen how he wakes us up, check out the video below which I taped about two years ago at my previous place. This video has received around 166,703 views and the comments keep coming in.

How he wakes us up:

  • Purposely steps on (or scratches) my long hair. It hurts! Remember, it’s like 7-8 kg load on your hair.
  • Stands on the head board and jumps onto me! Like someone slapping you! Again, it’s like a 7-8 kg load suddenly falling onto you. But I must admit sometimes I like him to step on me as it’s like being given a massage haha :)
  • keeps meowing (my mum once told me that my grandmother used to say that cats are very whiny … because”meoooowww sounds like whiiinnneeee”
  • Scratch the bed — I will immediately wake up upon hearing this because he’s damaging the bed!
  • Bites (but not swallow) whatever plastic he can find in our bedroom — this noise is definitely very irritating!!!
  • Scratches the door – again more noise!
  • Runs and jumps onto us.

I think all cats would do these to wake their owners eh! :) As I am typing this, my cat is sleeping beside me. Maybe it’s time for revenge! I should disturb him :)

So …

The husband woke up first. I continued to sleep till around 8 AM. Of course I wanted to sleep more but I couldn’t. I wasn’t tired. It was still early and the weather looked great. I suggested we go get some fresh air outside and do a run-cycle i.e I run while he cycles.

It was a short 6 km run and I enjoyed every step. We used to do this last time when I do my 2-hr long run — he  was my water man and my motivation to keep going hehe.

Brunch was at Ah Mei Cafe.

I had Kaya Toast and he had  egg & onion roti prata (not pictured).

Kaya is is a local jam made from eggs, sugar and coconut milk, and is flavoured by pandan leaves, and later sweetened with sugar. Kaya toast is made after the cook slices a single piece of toast into half, and spreading a generous amount of kaya followed by a slab of butter.  It is then covered up together and served hot.  The slab of butter and the taste of the jam is what made this toast popular.”

I always request for no butter and sometimes less kaya in my kaya toasts. It’s just too buttery and sweet for my taste.

I wanted to have the egg whites but they were too uncooked. I forgot to request for fully cooked eggs.

We did some groceries after brunch. Bought chinese baby spinach, baby carrots, peanuts, broccoli, cauliflower, mushrooms and lettuce

Red grapes, longan, litchies (not pictured), sandwich bread, milk and condensed milk

Crackers, fried mixed nuts, char siu sauce for marinates, sweet & sour sauce and beef steak (not pictured)

And some king prawns too – $18 for 9 prawns, much cheaper than eating these outside. We are having them for dinner tonight. Love those huge prawns :)

Mikey has a funny way to wake you up :P

On weekends, my alarm clock is my neighbor’s dogs. The neighbors let the dogs out and they bark and bark and bark. So annoying!

Ohh I see baby carrots. I love baby carrots. My favorite way to eat baby carrots? With spinach dip. Heheh. It’s fresh and healthy and sooo good :D

Last time i used to like small dogs more, then i began to notice cats more, i realised their very sensitive animals and can tell things at times which we may not know.
erm, the eggs at Ah Mei cafe u took, looks a bit too uncooked. i like half boiled eggs with soy sauce and pepper but not with watery uncooked egg whites still!

tell me about jumpy cats landing on u!
i’ve got 3 and i used to let them sleep with me but not anymore…cos there’s too much chasing and playing in the room that i have 3 land on my stomach at the same time OR 1 after another! MY GOD!!!

anyway, i got dive trip in dec 16-20 to Pulau Weh-Sumatra, Indonesia. will u be interested?
I’ll post up the details soon.

Do the dogs wake you up during weekdays as well?

I baked the baby carrots last night (seasoned with salt, pepper and rosemary herbs) but I should have boiled them instead because they took so long in the oven and they became a little too dry!

How do you make your spinach dip? I made another dip for my carrots using sour cream, ketchup and tabasco.

    How was spinning yesterday? :)

When I’m in my room I can’t hear if someone is knocking at my door (gotta change my doorbell’s battery) but my cat can always tell if there’s someone and that’s how I will know too i.e by just looking at my cat hehe.

Oh yeah, half boiled eggs are usually not that watery. I didn’t eat the eggs in the end but the husband did.

Hahha that’s funny :) I still let my cat sleep in our room. One is still okay hehe.

Oh, actually I don’t dive. I was asking you about the Borneo thing to go as a holiday getaway and not to go there to dive :) hehe

Do you often organise diving trips?

  7. aki Says:

spinning’s great yesterday. Cos hard to find motivation these days after so long, i always see a Japanese guy spinning in the front row, his legs really powerful, so i get inspiration from him haha, by watching him:)
But i think i’m low in Iron already, i can feel giddy, or fainting spells if i try too hard. So i regulate and never push too hard anymore.

  8. Agnes Says:

yeah 1 is fine so either i have 1 in the room or NONE.

i’m usually not the organiser hehehe..but again it depends
i just follow my frens if they got good deals and time permits.

During weekdays I usually wake up around 6 – 6.15 am. My neighbors let the dogs out around 7.30 am. As soon as they get out of the house, they start barking at everything! So frustrating to hear their constant barking while getting ready for work.

Actually I have never prepared spinach dip myself. My aunt usually makes that dipping sauce. I first tried it at her place and every time I go there, she makes spinach dip because she knows how much I love it :D I will ask for the recipe and let you know.

Haha. If I could I would! :D My cat is scared to go out cause he’s not used to it. But even if he isn’t scared, I don’t think I will bring him out as he can get lost.

Animals have a natural instinct for vagabondage. When set free, they would venture out for a long period of time and even not return. When my cousin set his dog out to wander, his dog did not return for weeks only to return dirty. When set off a second time, one way ticket.
