Groceries (4)
Yesterday I went to Fitness First with Aki. She could bring in a friend for free, so I joined her. I used to be a FF member 3 years ago but I canceled my gym membership because it was a waste to pay $140 per month when I wasn’t going anymore! Gosh my last spin was years ago! So yeah, I totally enjoyed yesterday’s spinning session, followed by hot yoga. I’ve never done yoga in a hot room before, so it was my first and I liked it :)
After that I dropped by MarketPlace to get
- Pickled Gherkins (around $10 per jar) — Love these in salads!
- Spicy Teriyaki sauce ($4.50)
- Red Tilapia Fish ($3.90) – for baking
It took me years (I seldom cooked during those years) to realise that things at MarketPlace and Cold Storage are slightly more expensive than at Fair Price or Shop N Save or Giant. I like MarketPlace, ColdStorage and Carrefoure for their fresher produce and more varieties of international products! And I can get fresh herbs most of the time! It would have been great if there was a ColdStorage branch near my place. I’m thankful there’s at least Giant and FairPrice nearby :) I only wish that Giant would sell more fresh herbs. I’ve only seen fresh Basil and rosemary during Christmas time. Why don’t all supermarket sell herbs? and baby english spinach?

This week, I wanna cook these for dinner
- Monday: Lentil soup au style Mauricien + rougaille
- Tuesday: Baked Tilapia fish with Belacan sweet potato leaves
- Wednesday: Baked charsiew chicken + beansprouts & corn in spicy teriyaki sauce
- Thursday: Mauritian Bol Renverse
- Friday: Eating with the girlfriends maybe
I also dropped by FairPrice to get the usual stuffs. Gotta do some more groceries during the week.

- 2 packets of sweet potato leaves ($0.80 each)
- Tomatoes (I got about 7 for less than $1)
- 10 eggs ($1.85)
- 2 punnets red globe grapes (about $3 each)
- Beansprouts ($1.60)
- Apple baked ham ($3.75)
- Lettuce ($0.70)
- 6 honey mangoes ($2.65 for 3 pieces)
- Oriental mixed nuts (love to snack on these!)

I wanted to get a gym membership but now I just want to take dance classes or yoga. I was reading up on Fitness First and California fitness a while back. I’ve seen too many reviews on both (good and bad) and I decided not to bother getting a gym membership because I don’t know where to go. There are no prices on their websites and from what I’ve read on the local forums, it seems that not all people have paid the same amount. It was getting a bit confusing.
Pickled Gherkins are so good. :D I can easily finish a whole jar(whole pickled gherkins) by myself. :P That’s why I buy the sliced ones instead now.

California Fitness’ membership is cheaper. If I had to choose again between the two, I would prefer Fitness First because I’ve heard some stories about Cali Fitness. I also like True Fitness (formerly known as Planet Fitness). The membership at FF is around $150 per month I think (heard from someone) and you can go to any of their branches . Yeah I think the membership price depends — I think it’s commission based … ? That’s why prices may vary but not by too much …
I haven’t opened that jar of pickled gherkins yet! heheh :P

..but I’ve heard that in addition to the monthly membership fee, there’s also a one-time joining fee . Is that true?

Yes there’s a one-time fee but mine was waived because I had signed up on the spot after having enquired about the membership fee. Euh sometimes this is just a trick to attract customers i.e sign on the spot to enjoy this and that.
Sometimes there is also promotion whereby you don’t need to pay that one-time fee…

I like the way you make your meal plans and stick to it. I used to do that some time ago but then I would feel lazy to cook or not in the mood to eat what’s on the menu on some days, and so change of plan… I have problems sticking to my meal plans. Hahah!
Most of the time, I decide what I would cook for dinner on the same day, or sometimes one day before. I can’t do better :| Shame on meee!

I’m new to making meal plans. It’s my 3rd week actually. I think I prefer making meal plans because it makes me want to stick to it. Last time I wasn’t making any meal plans and sometimes I would end up buying things which I thought I would cook, but never did in the end. A waste. Making meal plans have solve this problem. Also, I can prepare dinner faster because I prepare the ingredients on the eve (cutting, slicing and washing).
