Vegetarian week

This week is Lacto-Ovo vegetarian week (dinner only) as suggested by the husband last night. I was indeed delighted to hear this :) I already know what I’m going to cook this week!

  • Monday: No cooking as he is dining outside. I will probably just make myself a quick couscous for dinner and eat fruits.
  • Tuesday: Ndrea’s Tofu cakes with a little twist
  • Wednesday: Either baked semolina spinach gnocchi or baked pumpkin-filled wonton. I think I will bake the latter as it will take less than an hour to prepare unlike gnocchi. I’ve never used wonton skin and filled it with a pumpkin mixture before. There’s always a first time right!
  • Thursday: Baked lasagna-style eggplant with mushrooms
  • Friday: Noodle egg soup with lots of vegetables

I have never calculated the amount of nutrients i.e how much protein, carbs and fats we are getting from the things that I cook, but I think I will do it just for the fun of it … As a runner we need more than the average person. So I’m going to do some calculation maybe later tonight.

Who makes a list before going to the supermarket to buy groceries? I don’t and this isn’t good because I tend to spend and buy more than I need in the end! I didn’t do my weekly groceries during the weekend, so tonight I will probably drop by the supermarket to get these:

  • Eggplant
  • Tofu
  • Wonton skin
  • Spinach and other vegetables for the soup
  • Lettuce

Basically that’s all I have to buy as I have the rest of the ingredients for this week’s dinner.

I do make a list most of the time when I go buy groceries. Since I buy groceries at Super U, funny thing that I do is make a list by order : I know the store and where the things are shelved by heart. So when I make my grocery list, I always write the things I need in order of where the products are found. That way, I don’t need to stroll around the store. I go straight to buy my groceries. This method is quite helpful because then I don’t buy unnecessary stuff. Hahaha.

When we host dinner I make the list of the things that I will need but sometimes even with the list in hand, I still end up buying other stuffs esp. things that I find interesting or that are on promotion!

I don’t plan what to cook for dinner on a weekly basis, that’s why I hardly make a list … I decide what to cook only after I’ve bought the ingredients haa. But this week is different as I’ve planned what I wanna cook :)

I hate when supermarkets (those I go to on a regular basis) rearrange their products because it’s harder to find the stuffs!

    vegetarian!!!
    woot! woot! :D

hey, i just noticed your profile pic…nice shot!
i like the lighting…natural? or did you tweak it?

  4. admin Says:

Yeah I knew Waz would be delighted too hehe

As for the photos. no tweak. I’ve used the setting “foliage” scene from my camera — that’s why the colours look more vibrant eh. It’s good when shooting plants and stuffs outdoors. But indoor, it will look a bit yellowish like some of my other pictures …

Why do you call your husband “the husband?”

Hmmm good question. I’ve never asked myself this. When I blog or when I mention him online, he’s known as “the husband” but at home of course I don’t call him this :) Would you mind if your wife refers you as ‘”the husband”? :P

It’s my turn to say “good question” for “the wife” (just kidding) has never referred to me with these words. So, honestly, I don’t know. We usually call each other nice nicknames :-) Suprisingly, we never called each other using these nicknames before marriage, even if we dated for a long long time. Somehow marriage changed a lot of things. Personally, I did feel something different, the day I signed the papers, although it’s impossible for me to say what changed. It’s not like we suddenly became two different persons right after we signed the paper.

Now, I face a different problem. I usually call her “chérie” :-) But since we had a daughter, I also call her “chérie.”

@ patrick- you must call the wife “darling” instead now :p

We are trying to avoid using English language as much as we can at home. English is everywhere outside our home, and we think it’s enough. Also, we want her to learn French and Creole too. Whether her future children will speak French or Creole is a different matter, but these languages, especially Creole, are part of our heritage, and we want to pass them to her. So, at home, “nu koz kreol.” :-)

I wouldn’t mind if the husband calls me “the wife” in the cyberspace. However, if he is talking to his friends or others, and refers me as “the wife” I would mind :P “My wife” will sound much better. “My lovely wife” is even better isn’t it haha.

At home we just call each other dar or darling. Sometimes I will call him baby. “Cheri” sounds great but he won’t understand haha. He used to be known as “dar” on my blog last time when we were still dating. And actually some of my friends still refer him as “dar” e.g when asking me how the husband is doing, it will go like this “how is dar doing” hehehe.

I think it’s good to call each other nice nicknames even when we get old. So keep it up :) I think next time I will also have the same problem with the “darling” word when there will be a baby around hehehe.

    @ Clive

    Or use other nicknames :)

    @ Patrick

That’s what I’m hoping to do next time but it will be hard because the husband doesn’t speak french or creole … But I will still try :)

Ok pat, gater then… But then this has a double meaning.mouahhhh!!!!

    Like “gaté pouri?” :-)

    @Carine
I admit this can be a hard thing to do at home when parents speak different languages. One thing that I find interesting is that there is a little girl in Canada who can use British accent when talking to her mother (British) and Canadian accent when talking to her father.
