Be active and stay active

Your whole day depends on how you greet the morning. As long as you welcome it with energy and high spirits, everything will go okay. So start the day with cheers and smiles :)

A 30 minutes run or other form of exercises also do  wonders. At least  for me, provided that I have had enough rest at night. Do you know that you need to do at least 30 minutes of aerobic activities everyday? This can be in the form of walking, climbing the stairs instead of taking the lift, running, swimming, cycling etc. This is really good for your health.

You should  incorporate some weight bearing activities to increase your bone density because as we age,  osteoclasts, which is the breaking down of old bone, gradually takes the upper hand, and we lose more bone than we gain. When you exercise, you stresses your bones and more osteoblasts (building of new bones) are formed.  So your body increases the pace of osteoblast production when you lift weights or go for a jog.

Whenever we talk on the phone, I will ask my parents whether they have been going to the mountains and I also remind mum to do some resistance exercises.  Do some half squats, push ups etc.  Use your own body weight to create some resistance and if you can’t get a dumbbell, you could always fill a bottle with water or sand :)  Mum have you been doing? hehehe

So to all couch potatoes out there, be active and stay active!

Anyway ….

Milk + Weis’ Mango & Cream ice cream + 1 fresh mango +2 ice cubes = A delicious mango smoothie this morning :) Skip the ice cream for a healthier version hehe.

I took the picture above this morning :) Singapore Circle Line (CCL) officially opens today — only five stations (Marymount, Bartley, Serangoon and Lorong Chuan) begin operations for the public today.  CCL is Singapore’s 4th Mass Rapid Transit line. More on Wiki and take a look at Singapore MRT map if you are interested. CCL is the yellow line.

I couldn’t wait for the CCL to be opened, as this meant avoiding the terrible jam along one particular road everyday during the peak hours (evening especially)! So this morning I took the yellow CCL. The train was rather empty (good thing isn’t it). The journey to office was faster. From one of the CCL stations, I can either opt to walk for 15-20 minutes or take a bus to office. I might walk in the morning and take a bus in the evening. If I decide to walk everyday, that would be a total of 54 minutes of daily walk for me! 7 + 20 + 20 + 7 = 54 minutes. What a good way to get some daily exercise eh :)

Last night …

Dinner was a baked rosemary chicken with baked asparagus and  baked beans. The asparagus was over-baked and had lost it’s nice greenish colour.

We had a fruit platter after dinner. Here’s the mangosteen that I bought during the weekend.

Mangosteen is a tropical fruit that is grown primarily in hot, humid climates of southeast Asia such as Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, and Indonesia.

The fruit platter that we shared consisted of Sunkist oranges, mangosteen, Red Globe grapes and honey mangoes. I’m pretty much into grapes nowadays. Kinda sick of apples and pears. I like big grapes (unlike the ones in the picture) with seeds because I like to eat them slowly.

My mum always does those weight lifting exercises by using two 50cl water bottles. I used to find that weird. :P
I’m curious about the mangosteen. I’ve never seen this fruit before. How does it taste?

Just to share with you. From what i read, fruits are best eaten 30min before your actual meal. This is best for the minerals and vitamins to be absorbed by the body before u start your meal. If you eat your meal then eat fruits, all the vitamins and minerals from the fruits u ate will go to waste. Alternatively eat it maybe 2hrs after meal. Roughly when the meal is digested.:) In any case, u’re eating really healthy food!:)

Actually a few years ago, I was going to the gym every morning at 6.30 a.m. I exercised for at least one hour or so and then headed back home, took my shower and went to work. I started work late at that time so it was ok to go to the gym in the morning. Then for some reason, I stopped going to the gym and became very very lazy! *blush*

I haven’t been to the gym for so many years now but I have a cross trainer at home and I “try” to exercise during the week-end when I’m not too lazy :| Funny thing is that while reading your post, I felt motivated again to exercise! So yeah I’ll make it a point to exercise on my cross trainer more often :)

Mangosteen? o_O Never heard of this before.

Oh and the mango smoothie looks so refreshing!

I’ve never heard of Jiwok. Have you used it before? There’s someone who acts as a personal coach but you can only hear him from your mp3 player?

Thanks for sharing. I didn’t know that! Can’t recall whether my lecturers mentioned this before hehehe. But then, it’s not like they must know everything eh.

2 hrs after eating dinner is usually when we go to Zzzzz (during weekdays) … Will eat them in the morning or after lunch time :)

Come :) We still have some ice cream at home. Häagen-Dazs included :)

I was in this phase before — i.e hit the gym or just run outdoor, almost every morning or evening, then became too busy or lazy and stopped. Then I started again. Then stopped. Then started again… etc. etc.

There were many fruits that I had never eaten or heard of until I came to Singapore!

For those who never seen mangosteen before, it is a delicious tropical fruit, about the size of tangerine or mandarin orange, sweet and slightly acid. To choose the best mangosteen with less seed, just check out the “flower” sign at the bottom of the fruit, this “flower” contain the number of pedals which tell you the number of segments the fruit contains. The more the pedals represent the less seeds you will get! It is interesting. :-)

    @ Joyce

I didn’t know about the “flower” sign thing. Interesting indeed hehe. I will definitely look at this next time I buy some more mangosteens :)

    @ Joyce

So this one has 4 “flower”?, so 4 segments?

I have download it…but am too lazy to start :p! You have to go on their site, then you choose from their different trainings like “préparer une course” (in this category you can find “Courir un semi-marathon (1 h 40)”), then you download the mp3 which is composed of different sessions for different weeks :p…on the mp3 you have music and a coach who tell you when to run, when to walk and when to stop hahaha…it’s funny. Its free, its in french…
