Heartburn

Posted on 26 October 2007 by Carine Olivia

For the first time in my life, I experienced heartburn. Have you?

Heartburn is a burning feeling in the lower chest, along with a sour or bitter taste in the throat and mouth. The term “heartburn” may come from the fact that hydrochloric acid from the stomach comes back up the esophagus because of a problem with the cardiac sphincter, a valve which misleadingly contains the word “cardiac” (an adjective referring to the heart) in its name (wikipedia)

It took me a while to realise that I probably had heartburn. At first I thought that my antibiotic was stuck in my throat. It was a little alarming because I’ve never felt this burning before. It was an uncomfortable feeling.

* I had a question about heartburn in my Sports Nutrition exam paper and I think I wrote something different :<
