Strength Training

It was a double workout session for me yesterday. In the morning, I went for a jog at East Coast Park and after work, baby and I went to the SSC gym for strength training (after a 2 km warmup at the stadium). As soon as I entered the gym, I felt intimidated by the guys who outnumbered the girls. There were only 3 girls (me included) actually. The gym was pretty full, a little stinky but you know, when you train you don’t complain!

We started off with barbell half squats. I have not done any weight training for more than 6 months. I prefered to play it safe by just adding 5kg weight on each side of the 20kg barbell. My legs were shaking by the 5th set. When it came to barbell bench press, the bar alone was heavy enough for me! I could barely finish my 5th set without his help and without extending my wrist. Next was hamstring curl, dips etc. etc. and lastly it was lower leg raise for the lower abs.

“Let’s eat some deep fried spring chicken now!” – said by yours truly after leaving the gym.

If it wasn’t for his nagging, I would have ended eating a yummy spring chicken! haha. Well … I’m glad I did not.

Today my whole body is sore. I wanted to jog this morning to reduce some soreness but I gave way to sleep. I will do strength training at least once a week. I must strenghten my bones while I’m still young. Of course I must also consume enough calcium. Do you know that after 30 years old, our body starts experiencing a decline in bone mass and then when we, ladies hit our menopose, there’s even a more rapid decline in bone mass?

K enough said. Thank God it’s Friday! I’m meeting sis after work for shopping. My parents are coming to Singapore this Sunday!
