Anyone heard of Betel nut? Check out this site for more info. Our tour guide is a betel nut addict heh. The bus stopped several times in front of the betel nut booth.

Betel nut chewing is the local version of chewing tobacco or sunflower seeds. Betel nut is usually sold by some young scantily dressed women sitting in boths lit up with bright flashing lights. See this video below.
Anyway ….

On Day 3 we first visited CHIANG KAI-SHEK MEMORIAL HALL (C.K.S. Memorial Hall). It is located in the heart of Taipei City. The four sides of the structure are similar to those of the pyramids in Egypt. The material is white marble. The exhibition room demonstrates historical documents.

Next, we proceeded to CHIUFEN VILLAGE. Chiufen used to be the center of gold mining. It is located within the hills in northeast of Taiwan. The village is next to the mountain and faces the sea.

Some typical food that you can find at Chiufen Village.

Next, we travelled to the East of Taiwan. A 3 hour journey by train to HUALIEN COUNTY, the largest county in Taiwan.

Had steamboat for dinner.

We stayed at HUA LIAN DONG AN HOTEL that night. They had a nice bath tub but the bed wasn’t comfy.
